HANNAH BECROFT
ABOUT

I grew up in Soho, New York City, during the 70s and 80s, during an explosive time of for artists. My father is an abstract painter, my mother is an graphic designer, so art has been in my blood and my life from an early age.
I graduated from Vassar College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cultural Anthropology, which led me on a trip to Africa where I contributed to building schools in rural villages. I went on a journey to India, Nepal, and Tibet to study Buddhism and Hinduism. Along the way, I became a Jewelry maker, Yoga Instructor and Massage Therapist, always staying on my spiritual path.

When I paint, I dig into my thoughts and feelings, engaging in a conversation between my inner child, and a more serious side, as a woman dealing with life's challenges, darkness, and spiritual growth. I do this by deconstructing the tension between light and dark and finding a peaceful space in the process.

For the past seven years, I've been living in Sydney, where the textures of the landscapes and the colours of the ocean inspire my creativity. Currently, I work in real estate, so when I paint, I often think about how my art can enhance interiors, play with light, and elevate a room's ambience. Nature has a profound effect on my soul, and through my artwork, I aim to bring the beauty of the outdoors inside, allowing light to shine through my work.
